Assam Cabinet Addresses Key Issues in Weekly Meeting

Guwahati, 2nd March: The Assam cabinet convened for its weekly meeting in Guwahati, focusing on crucial matters such as the construction of a new flyover in Jorhat, securing a fresh loan from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), and discussions regarding the semiconductor revolution.

The meeting took place at Lok Sewa Bhawan in the secretariat, and following deliberations, Health Minister Keshab Mahanta briefed the media on the significant decisions made during the session.

The assembly commenced by expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Cabinet for their substantial investment of Rs 27,000 crore towards the establishment of a semiconductor Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP) facility in Morigaon.

The Tata Group is spearheading the establishment of a new semiconductor plant on a 500 bigha area, formerly occupied by the Jagiroad paper mill. This project is anticipated to create 15,000 direct job opportunities in Assam, as per Keshab Mahanta.

Additionally, Mahanta disclosed that four other prominent companies are planning to invest a cumulative amount of Rs 1612 crores in the state, potentially leading to an additional 4,000 employment opportunities.

In other developments, the construction of a flyover at Baruah Chariali in Jorhat, with an estimated state investment of Rs 164 crores, is in progress. This flyover will establish a direct link between Baruah Chariali and Bhogdoi Bridge in Jorhat.

Moreover, the Assam cabinet has approved a loan of Rs 4,546 crores and 74 lakhs from NABARD. Additionally, the cabinet has granted permission for Autonomous District Councils (ADCs), Circle Officers (COs), and Block Development Officers (BDOs) to continue with panchayat-level tasks until the Panchayat elections are conducted. According to Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass, these elections are scheduled to take place after the Lok Sabha elections.
