Assam: Car Thief Wounded in Police Firing In Cachar
Guwahati: A car thief sustained bullet injuries after the police opened fire on him in Cachar district of Assam on Sunday.
The incident took place in Silchar city of the district.
This was informed by Cachar Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta.
According to reports, the alleged car thief was hiding in a building in the city.
The car thief has been identified as Afzal Hossain Borbhuiya Lal.
However, things took a U-turn after Afzal Hossain tried to attack a police officer and flee from the spot. The police then resorted to shoot him.
Imdad received bullet injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH).
While speaking to the media over the matter, SP said,” ”We have received an input that a car thief whose name is Afzal Hossain Borbhuiya Lal who is engaged in car stealing has come to the Silchar. We have been looking for him for the past several days. Once we got the information about him, we formed a team to arrest him and we reached the location.”
”However, during the process, he tried to escape from the spot by attacking a police officer. Following this, the police team opened fire at him and injured him. Later, he was taken to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for treatment,” Mahatta added.
