Assam: Charges frames against 67 persons in APSC scam

Guwahati: A total of 67 persons were charged on Tuesday in connection with the infamous Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) scandal that rocked the state.

Sixty of them are exam applicants, while the remaining seven are APSC members and employees.

Sudeep Das and Rajib Pal, two additional defendants, were also deemed absconding from justice by the court. Rajib Pal is Rakesh Pal’s brother, and Sudeep Das was Rakesh Pal’s personal assistant.

Due to a lack of evidence, two of the accused in the case were acquitted.

Advocate Sailen Sarma Barua and businessman Surajit Choudhary, the husband of accused Pallabi Choudhary, were the two defendants whose accusations were withdrawn.

The charges against them were dismissed in court due to a lack of sufficient evidence to convict them, according to an official.

On April 11, Assam’s minister of water resources, Pijush Hazarika, announced the formation of a five-member commission to investigate the Justice B K Sharma Commission’s report on APSC’s CCE 2013 anomalies.

Following the weekly cabinet meeting, Hazarika addressed the media and stated that the five-member committee will submit its report within two months.
