Assam CM Engages with South Korean Business Leaders on Semiconductor and Clean Energy Investments
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is currently in Seoul, South Korea, where he held a series of strategic meetings with top business leaders to discuss potential investments in semiconductor manufacturing and clean energy sectors in Assam.
In a key meeting with Dr. Joon Choi, Vice President of SK Hynix, Sarma outlined his vision for transforming Assam into a global hub for semiconductor manufacturing. He emphasized that building a robust semiconductor ecosystem is a top priority for the Assam government.
“Enabling a corresponding semiconductor ecosystem is one of the major priorities of our government,” Sarma remarked, highlighting the state’s commitment to supporting the industry through infrastructure development, including a planned satellite township.
Sarma also met with Seoul Viosys CEO Lee Young Joo, where he discussed Assam’s efforts to support semiconductor businesses, including the development of infrastructure tailored to the needs of the industry.
Renewable energy was another key area of focus during Sarma’s visit. He met with Young Ha Ryu, Vice President of GS Group, to explore partnerships aimed at helping Assam achieve its goal of generating 3,000 MW of clean energy by 2030. Discussions centered around potential collaborations in power generation and workforce development in the renewable energy sector.
In a significant diplomatic move, Sarma met with Oh Youngju, South Korea’s Minister of SME and Startups, to explore avenues for fostering collaboration between Assam’s entrepreneurs and South Korean startups. The meeting aimed at strengthening business ties and encouraging mutual growth.
These discussions are part of Assam’s broader economic initiative, Advantage Assam 2.0, which aims to attract global investments and foster technological expertise in the state, positioning Assam as a key player in India’s economic growth.
