Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Reviews Orunodoi 3.0 Rollout and Ration Card Issuance

Guwahati, 9th September: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma led a crucial meeting today to finalize the draft guidelines for the statewide implementation of Orunodoi 3.0 and the issuance of new ration cards. Orunodoi, a key socio-economic empowerment initiative, is set to expand significantly, with 20 lakh new beneficiaries to be added from September, bringing the total to 47 lakh.

During the meeting, CM Sarma emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring a smooth rollout and reviewed the preparedness of the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department for issuing National Food Security Cards. He underscored that beneficiaries must hold both Aadhaar and ration cards to qualify for the scheme.

In addition to the Orunodoi 3.0 rollout, Sarma announced increased agricultural procurement targets. Mustard procurement is set to nearly triple from 11,000 MT this year to 30,000 MT next year, reflecting a broader effort to bolster local agriculture.

The Atmanirbhar Asom Abhijan, aimed at supporting local entrepreneurs, will distribute funds to 30,000 applicants in two phases. The first phase, starting on September 30, will provide Rs 2 lakh to each selected applicant following district-wise interviews.

The meeting underscores the Assam government’s focus on expanding welfare programs, enhancing agricultural productivity, and supporting local entrepreneurship.
