Kamrup Metropolitan District Admin Launches Fresh Eviction Drive at Kachutali
Guwahati, September 9: the Kamrup Metropolitan district administration executed a significant eviction drive at Kachutali in Sonapur, targeting illegal encroachments on government land. The operation commenced early in the morning, led by senior officials and supported by a robust security presence, including police and paramilitary forces.
The crackdown resulted in the demolition of structures built without authorization, part of a broader effort to address growing concerns over unauthorized settlements. The eviction followed reports of encroachers using the Kallang river route to illegally occupy land in the Kachutali Barbila area, where they had been residing for an extended period.
One evicted resident expressed distress, stating, “Our houses are being demolished. We have no idea where we will go from here. We were told the land was legally purchased from a broker. After living here for ten years, we are now facing eviction.”
This eviction drive is part of a sustained effort by the district administration, which had previously demolished several illegal structures in Dimaria two weeks ago. The administration’s actions reflect a firm commitment to enforcing land use laws and preventing further illegal encroachments.
