Assam CM Inaugurates Rabha Hasong Museum and Memorial in Goalpara
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the Museum of Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) at Udaypur in Dudhnoi, Goalpara district, on Friday, highlighting the vibrant culture and traditions of the Rabha community.
The museum, developed at a cost of ₹1.80 crore, is a significant step toward preserving the unique arts, artifacts, costumes, and customs of the Rabha people.
Alongside the museum, the Chief Minister also unveiled an e-library, offering access to a vast collection of global literature at the click of a mouse.
In a statement shared by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), these initiatives were described as pivotal in enriching the cultural heritage of the Rabha community while also advancing their socio-economic and cultural development.
Paying tribute to King Veer Parshuram of the Rabha community, CM Sarma acknowledged his bravery in resisting invaders, including the Mughal Empire, with limited resources.
“There are many brave sons in Assam’s history who saved the motherland from invaders. King Veer Parshuram of the Rabha community faced the Mughals with immense courage,” Sarma said in a post on X.
He further criticized past suppression of such histories, attributing it to leftist ideologies, and commended the state government’s efforts to honor King Veer Parshuram by constructing a memorial in his name.
The Rabha community, a Tibeto-Burman ethnic group, primarily resides in the plains of Lower Assam, the Dooars region, and parts of Meghalaya’s Garo Hills. Their rich cultural legacy has contributed significantly to Assam’s diverse heritage.
In a separate event earlier in the day, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off three new trains from Guwahati railway station, including the Guwahati-New Lakhimpur Janshatabdi Express, the New Bongaigaon-Guwahati Passenger Train, and the Tinsukia-Naharlagun Express, further enhancing connectivity across the state and beyond.
