Assam CM moves court against AICC Secretary

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has initiated criminal defamation proceedings against senior Congress leader Manoj Chauhan.

The case, filed in Guwahati’s Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, stems from allegations made by Chauhan during a press conference on February 11.

Chauhan had claimed that Sarma had invested in foreign businesses, including shopping malls and hotels in Dubai and Singapore.

However, the Chief Minister’s office has dismissed these allegations as “unfounded and unsubstantiated.” The court has registered the case and issued a pre-cognizance notice to Chauhan, requiring him to appear before the court on March 17.

In addition to the criminal defamation case, the Chief Minister is also pursuing a separate civil defamation suit against Chauhan. This legal action comes amid escalating political tensions in Assam, with both the ruling party and the opposition trading serious allegations.

However, Manoj Chauhan has remained firm with the statements made by him against the Assam CM.
It now needs to be seen who is right and who is wrong.
