Assam CM: No 10th Board Exams From Next Year

Guwahati, 6 June: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma declared that there will be no board exams for students in Class 10 students from the next academic year 2024–25.

The decision aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020’s implementation.

According to the chief minister, the matric exams will only be conducted at the school level. In addition, the state will form a new educational board.

Additionally, CM Sarma stated that the adjustments won’t result in any job losses for those employed by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA).

Previously, SEBA was responsible for Class 10 exams, while the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) conducted Class 12 board exams.

But the CM has declared that these two state boards will be combined into one. For students in Class 10, the pass-or-fail system will still be in effect but Board exams will only be given to students in Class 12. Additionally, because the promotion process would be ongoing Class 10 students will no longer need to apply for admission to Class 11.

This announcement coincided with the declaration of the Assam HS result 2023. A total of 4,22,174 students appeared the Class 10 exams this year, with a pass percentage of 72.69%.
