Assam CM Sarma Sees Off Former Guv Jagdish Mukhi

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday saw off the former Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi.

CM Sarma was joined by cabinet ministers including, Pijush Hazarika, Ashok Singhal, Ranoj Pegu, Jayanta Mallabaruah, among others.

He was also joined by Biswajit Daimary, speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly.

Taking to Twitter, CM Sarma wrote, “Along esteemed colleagues and dignitaries, we saw off Hon Governor Prof @jagdishmukhi Ji and First Lady Smt Prem Mukhi Ji today. Immensely grateful for the generous guidance all these years.”

Yesterday, a dinner was also hosted to bid farewell to Prof Mukhi which was joined by ministers, dignitaries and officials.

Prof. Jagdish Mukhi served the governorships of Assam and Nagaland (Additional Charge), respectively between 2017 and 2023.

Gulab Chand Kataria, the leader of the opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly was appointed as the new governor of Assam on February 12.

Politician Gulab Chand Kataria belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He was Rajasthan’s home minister. He is a prominent BJP leader and a member of the central working committee from 2014 to 2018.

Kataria will succeed the current governor of Assam with changes in the post for several states.
