Assam CM to launch 100 CNG buses on January 1 as New Year gift for state

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the introduction of 100 CNG buses to the state at today’s cabinet meeting in New Delhi.

Making the announcement, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the introduction of the CNG buses, along with a few other projects will be a New Year’s present for the state.

The remerging of four newly established districts with their prior districts was also declared by CM Sarma.

As per Sarma’s announcement, Hojai will be merged with Nagaon district, Tamulpur to come under Baksa district, Bajali to be merged with the Barpeta district, and Biswanath district will be merged with Sonitpur district.

He added that these decisions were made in the interest of Assam and society and due to administrative superiority.

”We have decided to remerge four districts. Decisions were taken in the interest of Assam’s future,” Sarma said while addressing a press conference after the cabinet meeting.

Sarma added that all other district offices established during this time period would also continue, ensuring that neither authorities nor workers would encounter any difficulties. These offices included the police and judicial districts, among others.

While expressing regret to the residents of the four districts for the adjustments made during today’s cabinet meeting, Sarma referred to the action as temporary and noted that there is a chance that the districts may be restored to their administrative unit once the delimitation process is complete.
