Assam CM To Launch Portal for Village Road Development Complaints

Guwahati, 14th March: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to launch a portal on March 14 dedicated to addressing complaints related to road construction and development in every village across the state.

Under this initiative, villages with a population exceeding 250 will have the opportunity to register their requirements directly on the portal, bypassing the need to involve their local MLA. The objective is to minimize conflicts between MLAs and villagers and ensure smoother road development processes. Villages with a population exceeding 1000 can anticipate assured road development, marking a significant step towards next-generation reforms in Assam, as stated by Sarma during a media briefing.

The initiative comes in response to the persistent issue of poor road construction in Assam, which has posed challenges for residents and businesses alike. Roads constructed by the Public Works Department (PWD) often develop cracks and potholes within a few months, indicating the use of substandard materials or inadequate construction techniques.

Furthermore, the absence of proper drainage during construction exacerbates the problem, leading to waterlogging on roads during the monsoon season. This not only damages the road surface but also inconveniences commuters.

In a related development, the Kamrup Metropolitan District Administration had previously announced two contact numbers in June 2023 for citizens of Guwahati to report damaged roads, open pits, and dugouts for restoration, highlighting the ongoing efforts to address road-related issues in the region.
