Assam CM’s Wife’s Company Received Rs 10 Crore Subsidy, Says Congress MP
Guwahati, 13th September: After Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma clarified that his wife’s business had received a subsidy of Rs 10 crore from the Ministry of Food Processing Industries as part of the Kisan Sampada program, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi responded by redirecting the URL to the list of recipients.
Taking to his Twitter handle, Gogoi shared the link to the Ministry of Food Processing Industries’ website, which lists Riniki Bhuyan Sarma’s company, Pride East Entertainment, as one of the beneficiaries of the Kisan Sampada scheme.
The company received the subsidy in November 2022 for setting up a food processing unit in Darigaji village in Assam’s Kamrup district.
The Kisan Sampada scheme is a central government scheme that aims to provide financial assistance to farmers and entrepreneurs to set up food processing units.
The scheme provides a credit linked subsidy of up to 35% of the project cost.
Gogoi has alleged that Sarma used his influence to get the subsidy for his wife’s company.
Sarma has denied the allegations, saying that his wife’s company was eligible for the subsidy and that she had followed all the necessary procedures.
The matter is likely to snowball into a political controversy in Assam.
