Assam: Commanding Officer of 4th APTF Battalion Suspended

Guwahati: An instant suspension has been issued for the commandant of the 4th APTF Battalion in Howly of Barpeta district Assam.

The commandant who has been suspended is identified as Mukut Rabha.

According to accounts, Rabha accidentally misfired his gun on October 24 during the gun salute at Barpeta Satra Burha Sattriya Basistha Dev Sarma’s funeral.

Due to his carelessness while performing his duties, he was suspended.

The suspension order passed by the Governor of Assam read, “Whereas, a report has been received from the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Assam vide U.O.No.PR.SECY/CMO/07/2021/402 DATED 30.10.2022 that during a recent visit of the Honourable Chief Minister to Barpeta, some of the police rifles misfired during the gun salute, which was very embarrassing to everyone present there.”

“Whereas, the gun salute was performed by members of the 4th APTF Bn, Howly, Barpeta’s police force;

Whereas, it was the commandant of the 4th APTF Bn, Howly, Barpeta’s duty to oversee the arrangements of the gun salute in a public event;

Whereas, the incident of the gun salute’s misfiring during the ceremony reflects the irresponsible conduct of Shri Mukut Rabha.

The Governor of Assam is now convinced that Shri Mukut Rabha, APS, Commandant of the 4th APTF Bn, Howly, Barpeta should be suspended for suspected dereliction of duty while departmental proceedings are being drawn out in the interest of the public service.

“Shri Mukut Rabha, APS, Commandant of the 4th APTF Bn, Howly, Barpeta is authorised to collect subsistence allowances as admissible under provision of F.R. 53 (1)(ii)(a) of the FRs and SRs subject to production of non-employment certificate under Sub Rule (2) of F.R. 53,” the letter said.

His base of operations will be at O/o the Commandant, 4th APTF Bn, Howly, Barpeta throughout the suspension.
