Assam: Congress Leader Rana Goswami Set to Meet Himanta Biswa Sarma, JP Nadda Today, Expected to Join BJP on March 4

Guwahati, 28th February: In the midst of the ongoing crisis within Assam Congress, senior party leader Rana Goswami, who resigned from his role as organisational in-charge of Upper Assam, is reportedly set to join the BJP on March 4, according to reports familiar with the matter.

Reports revealed that Rana Goswami is scheduled to meet Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and later BJP National President JP Nadda on February 28.

As per reports, Rana Goswami might formally join BJP on March 4 at approximately 11:29 am.

However, it is also reported that the timing of the joining date is expected to be chosen after considering auspicious astrological factors.

Moreover, reports further mentioned that AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal attempted to contact Rana Goswami, but the latter did not respond to the call.

In his resignation letter addressed to APCC chief Bhupen Borah, Goswami cited ‘several political reasons’ for his decision. “Unfortunately, I am tendering my resignation as the organisational in-charge of Upper Assam, including the districts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, and Biswanath, due to various political reasons,” Goswami stated in his letter to Borah.

The turmoil within Assam Congress intensified on February 14 when two Congress MLAs – Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, the former working president, and Basanta Das, a former minister in the Tarun Gogoi government – announced their decision to ‘support the government’ while remaining within the grand old party.

These two MLAs joined the ranks of two other Congress legislators – Sashi Kanta Das and former minister Siddique Ahmed – who had previously ‘joined the government’ but retained their status as members of the opposition party.
