Assam Congress to contest alone in Assembly By-Elections
Guwahati: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has announced that the Congress will contest the upcoming by-elections in Assam alone without forming any alliance.
Working President of the APCC, Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, said that the Congress has decided to contest the upcoming by polls all by itself and during this, the party will not go into any alliance with any party.
Purkayastha added, “Since the Congress is capable of winning elections by all itself, we have now decided to contest alone. We have decided to break all ties with the AIUDF as it is evident that they are in a partnership with the BJP.”
He added that the recent statements made by Badruddin Ajmal has proven that they have always been in an alliance with the BJP.
He also added that the Congress has also decided that they will not field any candidates for the Rajya Sabha as they do not have the numbers needed in the house.
It may be mentioned that as of now there are six vacant Assam Assembly Constituency seats due to various reasons. The by-elections to fill up these seats will so take place in the state and further preparations by all the parties have already started.
