Assam: Court Rejects Jignesh Mevani’s bail plea , Sent to Police Custody

Guwahati: Bail petition of Gujrat’s MLA Jignesh Mevani has been rejected by a court in Assam’s Kokrajhar district and on Thursday he was further police custody for three days.

Mevani was apprehended at a Palanpur Circuit House around 11.30 p.m. on Wednesday and taken to Assam’s Kokrajhar.

It may be mentioned that he was charged with criminal conspiracy, encouraging hostility between communities, intentional insult with the goal to create a breach of peace, and sections of the Information Technology Act, according to police in Kokrajhar.

It is to be noted that Arup Kumar Dey, a local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, filed a complaint against Mevani at the Kokrajhar Police Station, alleging that Mevani wrote in one of his tweets that PM Modi worships Godse.

Meanwhile, Kankan Das, an advocate and the general secretary of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, announced that they would appeal the lower court’s decision and seek Mevani’s release in a higher court.
