Assam DGP GP Singh Responds to Security Breach at Dibrugarh Central Jail

Guwahati, 20th February: Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh arrived in Dibrugarh on February 20 following a major security breach reported at Dibrugarh Central Jail on Saturday.

Unauthorized activities were discovered in the National Security Act (NSA) cell at Dibrugarh Jail, prompting the installation of additional CCTV cameras in the public area of the NSA Block. Subsequent investigations confirmed the unauthorized activities, leading to a thorough search operation in the NSA Cell early this morning. The search yielded numerous unauthorized items, including a smartphone with SIM, a keypad phone, a TV remote with keyboard, a spy-cam pen, pen drives, Bluetooth headphones and speakers, and a smartwatch. All seized items were legally confiscated by the jail staff.

Lawful actions are being taken at Dibrugarh Central Jail in response to the discovery of unauthorized activities within the NSA cell. DGP GP Singh, via X handle, reported the installation of additional CCTV cameras to monitor the situation. The evidence gathered from the surveillance led to a comprehensive search of the NSA cell, resulting in the seizure of several unauthorized devices. Notably, the jail, known for its multi-tier security system, houses detainees under the NSA, including Amritpal Singh, who is kept in a solitary cell. Measures are being implemented to prevent similar instances in the future.
