Assam DGP Issues Warning Against Supporting Banned Militant Groups

Guwahati, 23rd December: Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh has issued a robust warning to the public, stating that individuals supporting or intending to join any banned militant group will face arrest. DGP Singh conveyed this message on the social media platform X, emphasizing the need for caution in expressing such sentiments on social media.

“Anyone willing to join or support any terrorist group banned by the government will be arrested and prosecuted according to the law. Please be careful about what you write about banned organizations on social media,” warned DGP GP Singh.

This stern message from the Assam DGP follows a public exchange with ULFA-I commander-in-chief Paresh Barua. Earlier, Barua challenged Singh to move freely around Guwahati without security for a week, to which the DGP responded by reiterating Assam Police’s commitment to residents’ safety while operating within the constitutional framework.
