Assam: Dramatic Rescue Operation as Forest Officials Save Elephant Trapped in Ditch
Gossaigaon, August 3, 2024 — In a remarkable display of swift action and coordination, forest officials in Gossaigaon successfully rescued an elephant that had fallen into a ditch while searching for food. The incident took place in the village of Mainaopur, situated within the Sanfan range.
The elephant, which was part of a herd that had ventured out of Raimona National Park during the night, became trapped in the ditch as the group was making its way back to the park.
Forest personnel from the Sanfan range quickly responded to the situation. Using a JCB, they carefully excavated the soil around the ditch, creating a safe passage to extricate the elephant.
Following the successful rescue, the elephant was transported back to Raimona National Park and released into its natural habitat. This operation was conducted under the initiative of the forest department of Raimona National Park, ensuring the elephant’s well-being and safe return to the wild.
