Guwahati, 18th February: Assam Police On Saturday night, February 17 conducted a successful operation against illegal gambling in Bijni, Chirang, resulting in the arrest of eight individuals, including Pranav Saikia (44), bodyguard to BJP’s MCLA Pradeep Bayan.
Acting on a tip-off, the police raided an abandoned house near Bijni railway station, a known hotspot for illegal gambling activities. Among the arrested individuals were Diganta Gowala (37), Biswajit Das (30), Nilkamal Roy (36), Raj Halai (33), and Poonai Roy (30) from Satianguri.
The gamblers had reportedly been operating for a considerable period, facilitated by Mridul Das, who provided maintenance to the gambling dens after acquiring railway land.
During the raid, police confiscated Rs 12,550 in cash, nine mobile handsets, and various cards used for gambling activities. The arrested individuals were subsequently taken to Bijni police station for further legal proceedings.
