Assam: Elephant Safari at KNP Closed Indefinitely from Dec 24

Guwahati, 24th December: In a surprising move, Kaziranga National Park authorities have announced the indefinite suspension of elephant safari services starting December 24th. The decision comes in response to a controversial proposal from the Assam Forest Department, suggesting the reservation of a seat on each elephant for forest department officials in the interest of security.

The national park authorities have vehemently opposed this directive, citing practical challenges. Allegedly subjected to ill-treatment during discussions with the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), they express their concerns over the feasibility of implementing the proposed measure.

The suspension will persist until a satisfactory resolution is achieved, marking an unfortunate setback for visitors planning to experience the unique elephant safaris at Kaziranga National Park.
