Assam: Ex-APSC Chairman Rakesh Pal Gets Bail After 6 Years
Guwahati: Former APSC Chairman Rakesh Pal was granted bail by the Gauhati High Court on March 24 after serving six years in prison.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on March 22 informed the House that 57 state employees from the 2013, 2015 and 2016 batches had been detained and fired for allegedly participating in a “pay for job scam.”
Three additional people have been promoted to approver status, the Assam Chief Minister added.
”60 people who passed the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) examinations in those years have been brought under investigation. Out of 60, 57 were arrested and discharged from services in the APSC cash for job scam,” Sarma said while replying to a query by Congress MLA Bharat Chandra Nath.
”Three other officials agreed to become approvers and they are under suspension at present,” he added.
Sarma added that the government has not yet approved the Justice BK Sharma Commission’s report on the scandal which was sent to a committee for review.
Since 2016, the Assam Police have arrested nearly 70 people including the APSC’s former Chairman Rakesh Kumar Paul and 57 civil service employees as part of their investigation into a cash-for-jobs scam.
