Assam: Five Chimpanzees rescued in Karbi Anglong, two held

Guwahati: At least five Chimpanzees was rescued and two persons were arrested in Karbi Anglong district of Assam on Tuesday.

The incident took place in the Dilai area near Bokajan town of the district.

The arrestees identified as Md Hobibur Rahman and Md Zanab Khan. Both of them is a resident of Sangaiyumpham village in Thoubal district of Manipur.

According to reports, a vehicle bearing registration no. MN-01-AG-5829 (Maruti Ecco Van) was intercepted by the police personnel. On checking the vehicle, the police team recovered 5 (five) of Chimpanzees.

The vehicle was heading towards Guwahati from Dimapur when it was intercepted at Dillai Tiniali.

The police officials further seized the vehicle.

It needs to be noted that the arrested persons along with the Chimpanzees were handed over to the Assistant Conservator of Forest, I/C Manja Range, Karbianglong, East Division for taking necessary action.
