Assam: Floods situation improves slightly; over 5000 remain affected

Guwahati: The flood situation in Assam has improved even though over 5000 people are still displaced across four districts, an official bulletin said.

The flooding is affecting at least 5,169 people in the districts of Cachar, Morigaon, Tamulpur, and Kamrup (M).

The worst affected district was Cachar, with 2167 victims, followed by Morigaon (2,110), and Tamulpur (892).

There were 197 fatalities in the state this year as a result of floods and landslides.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reports that 196 hectares of crops have been damaged and 35 villages are under water.

Six aid camps in one district have taken in about 542 individuals, including 85 children.

No river in the state is flowing above the danger threshold as of right momen,, it added.
