Assam for 1st time exports 1.5 tonnes Jackfruit to Dubai

Guwahati: Assam for the first time transported 1.5 tonnes of tender jackfruits and green chillies to Dubai from Dhubri district on Friday, boosting northeast India’s agro exports to the Middle East (April 8).

The shipment was flagged off by Dhubri DC Anbamuthan MP, who stated that jackfruits and green chillies were being sent to Dubai for the first time in Assam.

The shipment includes 1.5 tonnes of tender jackfruit and more than half a tonne of green chillies, which will be marketed and traded through the Lulu Group International’s network of more than 225 supermarkets and hypermarkets throughout the Gulf.

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), which is part of the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, was in charge of the export process.

According to the Deputy Commissioner, today is a memorable day for the Dhubri district’s and Assam’s agro-economic sectors.

“We have been waiting for this day for years,” Abul Kalam Azad, President of the FPO, remarked of the entire process. Since the last six months, we’ve been attempting to export green chilli and delicate jackfruit. The district administration was always willing to assist us. We owe them a debt of gratitude.”

The exported commodities were produced by FPO, or Green Chilli Producer Organization Cooperative Society Ltd, which includes 560 shareholder farmers from Bilasipara and Nayer Alga Development Block area.
