Assam: Former Minister Akon Bora Resigns from Key Congress Posts Amid Family Political Rift

Guwahati, August 17, 2024 — Former Assam Minister Akon Bora has stepped down from two prominent positions within the Congress party, resigning from his roles on the Congress election committee and the Political Affairs Committee (PAC). Bora, a senior Congress member who played a key role in establishing the PAC, submitted his resignation letter to AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge.

Bora’s resignation comes in the wake of growing discomfort following the defection of his son, Manas Bora, to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This move has intensified speculation about the future of Akon Bora’s political career and its implications for the Congress party’s strategy in Assam. The resignation highlights the ongoing internal tensions within the party and raises questions about its future dynamics in the region.
