Assam: Golden Langur dies after being hit by speeding vehicle in Bongaigaon

Guwahati, 20th August: In a tragic incident that underscores the precarious situation of the endangered Golden Langur, a young male was killed by a speeding vehicle in the Jiyaguri area of Kakoijana, Bongaigaon District, on Tuesday morning. The death of the langur adds to the growing list of casualties among this rare species, which is increasingly vulnerable due to habitat loss and human encroachment.

The continuous fragmentation of the Golden Langur’s natural habitat has forced these primates closer to human settlements, where they face numerous dangers, including road accidents. Conservationists are sounding the alarm, emphasizing the need for immediate and effective measures to protect these endangered creatures.

“The Golden Langur is already at risk, and incidents like this highlight the urgent need for concerted conservation efforts,” said a local wildlife expert. “Without intervention, the survival of this species is in serious jeopardy.”

Efforts to preserve the Golden Langur’s habitat and create safe passages through fragmented landscapes are now more critical than ever. The survival of this species, which serves as an indicator of the region’s environmental health, hangs in the balance, demanding immediate and sustained action.
