Assam Government in Contact with ULFA-I for Peace Talks: CM Sarma

Guwahati: The state government is in contact with the leadership of the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) for peace negotiations, according to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

CM Sarma stated that efforts are being made to negotiate with the Paresh Baruah-led ULFA-(I).

“We have told people about the issues we have with ULFA. However, despite that, we are directly and indirectly in touch with the ULFA leadership. I am hopeful of resolving this issue within this (five-year) tenure,” the chief minister said.

Additionally, he acknowledged the peace talks with Jiban Singha, the leader of the KLO and declared that he would soon begin speaking with him.

In Nagaland’s Mon area earlier on Friday, Singha and several other members of his organisation surrendered and rejoined society.

The KLO leader and the Center are anticipated to begin their peace negotiations soon.
