Assam Government Reports 390 Arrests in Two Years for Anti-National or Extremist Links
Guwahati, 12th September: The Government of Assam revealed that security forces have arrested 390 individuals across the state over the last two years and five months due to their alleged links with anti-national or extremist activities.
In response to a written question by Congress MLA Abdur Rashid Mandal during the first day of the autumn session of the state assembly, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma provided this information. He stated that these arrests included 52 individuals from Kokrajhar, 43 from Udalguri, 40 from Dima Hasao, 38 from Barpeta, 30 from Tinsukia, and 29 from the Baksa district.
Furthermore, during the tenure of the current Assam government, there have been 2,942 arrests in cases related to cattle smuggling and 434 arrests in cases of women trafficking.
In the same period, 11,624 individuals have been arrested in matters related to drug offenses, resulting in the seizure of narcotics worth Rs 2,817.85 crores in various parts of Assam.
These statistics reflect the efforts of law enforcement agencies in addressing a range of issues, from extremism to illicit activities like cattle smuggling, women trafficking, and drug-related crimes.
