Assam Government Set to Introduce Assam Tourism Bill 2024 to Boost Sector in Upcoming Vidhan Sabha Session

Guwahati, 1st February: State Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah has confirmed that the Assam government will introduce the Assam Tourism (Development and Registration) Bill, 2024, in the upcoming Vidhan Sabha budget session. Baruah emphasized the necessity of this legislation to regulate tourism effectively within the state, paving the way for its implementation.

This strategic move aims to invigorate and promote Assam’s tourism industry, fostering economic growth through the development of infrastructure and responsible tourism practices. The bill seeks to safeguard the state’s cultural and natural heritage, enhancing tourist experiences through improved services, attractions, and minimized environmental impacts.

Apart from the proposed bill, the Assam government has been actively engaged in various initiatives to enhance the tourism sector. The Assam Tourism Bill 2024 is a significant step toward tapping into the state’s rich tourism potential, encompassing wildlife, scenic beauty, festivals, historical monuments, tea gardens, and the Brahmaputra River.

Anticipated to contribute significantly to the state’s economy, the bill aligns with the national trend, where tourism already constitutes 6.23% of the GDP. The Assam cabinet, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, approved the bill on January 31, 2024, marking a historic move towards cultural preservation and social reform. With this legislative framework, Assam aims to become an even more attractive destination, offering diverse activities from trekking in tea gardens to wildlife tourism in renowned national parks like Kaziranga and Manas.
