Guwahati, 16th February: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Friday that the state government will undertake the renovation of Sri Sri Madhupur Satra, a significant seat of Vaishnavite learning located in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal.
With a dedicated plan amounting to Rs 30 crore, the project aims to enhance and preserve the 16th-century Satra’s cultural and historical significance. Sarma emphasized the profound influence of the teachings of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev and Sri Sri Madhavdev in guiding the people of Assam for centuries, expressing the government’s commitment to honoring their legacies for future generations.
Srimanta Sankardeva, an eminent Assamese saint-scholar, social-religious reformer, poet, and playwright, alongside his disciple Sri Sri Madhavdev, played pivotal roles in shaping the cultural and religious landscape of Assam during the 15th-16th century.

As part of the renovation plan, various amenities including a guest house, ‘bhog ghar’ (community kitchen), museum, and auditorium will be constructed, further enhancing the Satra’s infrastructure and accessibility. Sarma reiterated that a comprehensive plan with an allocated budget of Rs 30 crore has been formulated to facilitate the restoration and revitalization of Sri Sri Madhupur Satra, ensuring its enduring legacy for generations to come.
