Guwahati: The Assam Government is likely to soon take a decision on the security cover of Member of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and Very Important Persons (VIPs) of the state.
This comes after months of socio-political debate on the subject, particularly in recent weeks. The topic has received a lot of attention.
According to insiders, the Assam government is poised to make key choices about political leaders’ security cover. In a recent meeting with Chief Ministers in Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a suggestion in this respect.
The Assam Cabinet is expected to make a decision on January 1, 2022, at its next meeting. This is on the first day of the new year.
All MLAs are expected to receive only four PSOs and no escort car. Furthermore, no state-level leader will be given an escort car.
The Chief of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) would most likely lose his escort car but will receive four PSOs. As a result, Debabrata Saikia, the Leader of the Opposition, will receive four PSOs and an escort car. The Assam Congress is the state’s main opposition party.
It may be mentioned that the Chief secretary will get 4 PSOs and an escort. From Additional Chief secretaries to secretaries, officers will get only 4 PSOs. Cabinet ministers will likely get PSOs and pilot cars.
