Assam Govt Takes Big Step to Improve Nutrition of Tea Garden Students
Guwahati, 19th September: The Assam government has begun distributing three eggs per student each week for the midday meal at schools in the state’s tea garden regions, which is a huge change.
The initiative was taken as part of the Poshan program of the prime minister.
The state government has begun offering three eggs every week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) in 2,429 schools in tea garden districts, which would serve 2,49,042 pupils, starting on September 18 (Monday), according to Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu.
Pegu visited the Amchong Tea Estate Model School in the Kamrup-Metro district earlier in the day and joined the pupils for lunch.
The inclusion of eggs in the midday meal supplied in the schools in the tea garden areas received approval from the Assam Cabinet last year.
