Assam: Govt school principal arrested for accepting bribe in Nagaon

Guwahati, 18th January: In a commendable move, the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, has apprehended Bulbul Choudhury, the Principal (In-charge) of Kaoimari Higher Secondary School in Nagaon district. The arrest comes in response to a complaint alleging Choudhury’s demand for a bribe of Rs. 3,000 in exchange for updating a service book and issuing a time scale increment order.

The concerned individual, determined to combat corruption, approached the Directorate, leading to a swift response. On January 18, 2024, a vigilant team from the Directorate laid a trap at Kaoimari Higher Secondary School. Choudhury was caught red-handed, accepting Rs. 1,500 of the demanded bribe, and the tainted money was immediately seized.

A case (Case No. 10/2024) has been registered at the ACB Police Station under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018). Choudhury has been arrested based on the gathered evidence, marking a significant step in the fight against corruption.

This operation highlights the Directorate’s commitment to curbing corruption and upholding accountability in public service, reinforcing the importance of maintaining integrity in educational institutions.
