Guwahati: A member who is accused of being involved in an inter-state car thief gang was arrested by Guwahati Police from Basistha-Beltola main road on Thursday night.
The arrested person has been identified as Hiten Narzary who is a resident of Tezpur in Sonitpur district.
According to reports, the thief used sophisticated hijacking equipment to break into a parked Bolero vehicle, but was caught just in time by the vehicle owner.
The owner immediately dashed towards the vehicle and apprehended the thief just as he was about to accelerate away.
Later, the vehicle owner handed the thief over to Basistha police for further legal action.
It needs to be noted that the alleged thief is a member of an interstate auto thief gang.
However, efforts are being made to extract further information from him.
