Guwahati: Continuing their drive against corruption, a team of officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption arrested the Junior Accounts Assistant of the Sub Treasury office in Bihpuria of Lakhimpur district of Assam for accepting bribe.
The arrested treasury official has been identified as Jagat Chandra Nath.
He was trapped and arrested red handed on Saturday by the officials of the anti corruption cell while accepting demanded money in the name of processing the NPS bill of the complainant.
Meanwhile, taking to twitter, ADGP (Law & Order) GP Singh wrote, “Today, @DIR_VAC_ASSAM team trapped and arrested red-handed Sri Jagat Ch Nath, Jr Acctts Asstt of the Sub Treasury office Bihpuria, Lakhimpur while accepting bribe money from the complainant in the name of processing the NPS bill of the complainant. Necessary follow up being done.”
The Assam Police have urged citizens to report any kind of monetary demands made by government employees and have also issued two helpline numbers in this regard. Citizens have been asked to report bribery cases at the helpline numbers: 0361-2462295 and 1800-3453767.
