Assam: Large Cache of Arms and Ammunition Seized Near Bhutan Border in Tamulpur

Guwahati, 12th September: A major cache of arms and ammunition, including grenades and handmade guns, was seized near the Bhutan border in Assam’s Tamulpur district, raising concerns over regional security. The joint operation was conducted by the local police and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) on Wednesday, September 11.

The recovery included eight grenades, two handmade guns, and several bows and arrows from Pamkhedi Darangamela, an area close to the Bhutan border. The operation was led by Abhijit Gogoi, the officer-in-charge of Darrangmela Police Station, in coordination with the 64th Battalion of the SSB.

In a separate incident earlier the same day, police in Upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district foiled a potential act of violence by recovering two grenades, further highlighting security challenges in the region.

Authorities have launched an investigation to identify the source and intended use of the explosives. In the meantime, security measures have been increased to prevent any further threats.

This recovery underscores the ongoing efforts by security forces to maintain peace and stability along Assam’s sensitive border areas.
