Assam Launches India’s First 100% Electric Bike Taxi and Delivery Service

Guwahati, 7th January: In a historic move, Assam’s Minister of Transportation, Parimal Suklabaidya, inaugurated the “Electric Bike Taxi and Delivery services” through the “Baayu ASTC App,” marking India’s first app-based 100% electric and decentralized bike taxi service.

In collaboration with Bikozee Ecotech, a local startup, Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) introduced the ‘Baayu ASTC App,’ offering zero-emission bike taxis and delivery services. This initiative, supported by NITI Aayog’s ‘Shoonya’ campaign, aims to generate 5,000 job opportunities for driver partners in Assam, reduce carbon emissions by 29,000 tonnes annually, and save Rs 73 crore on fuel consumption.

The “Baayu – Clean Air Movement” aligns with the Government of Assam’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and inclusivity, revolutionizing the state’s transportation landscape. This groundbreaking initiative leverages decentralized technologies, contributing to India’s digital commerce transformation through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) approach.
