Assam Lok Sabha Elections 2024: 8,647,869 Electors to Determine Outcome for 35 Candidates across 5 LS Seats

Guwahati, 18th April: The office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Assam, has finalized all arrangements to ensure the forthcoming Lok Sabha Election in Assam proceeds smoothly and securely.

Election Observers, appointed by the Election Commission of India, will maintain a vigilant watch over law and order and expenditure to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.

Live monitoring and webcasting facilities have been set up by the CEO, Assam, to oversee polling day proceedings in real-time, in adherence to the Election Commission of India’s directives.

A total of 10,001 polling stations have been designated for Phase 1, with 92 as model polling stations, 11 managed by Persons with Disabilities (PwD), and 752 managed by females.

Webcasting will cover all 5,509 polling stations, enabling live monitoring by the Election Commission of India, the Chief Electoral Officer, and District Election Officers.

Assured Minimum Facilities (AMF) are provided at all polling stations, including drinking water, furniture, waiting sheds, toilets, lighting, ramps for PwD voters, and creche facilities.

Transport facilities, volunteer assistance, and wheelchairs are arranged for elderly and PwD voters at polling stations, with the option to register for transportation through the Saksham mobile app.

Various IT applications such as the Voter Helpline App, KYCECI App, cVIGIL app, and the Election Helpline no. 1950 are available to assist voters during the election process.

A total of 40,004 polling and Presiding Officers will be deployed, alongside 10,001 Ballot Units, 10,001 Control Units, and 10,001 VVPATs.

Micro-Observers will be stationed at critical polling stations, with the Mock Poll commencing 90 minutes before the start of voting.

35 candidates are contesting across 5 High Priority Constituencies (HPCs) in Phase 1, with a total of 8,647,869 electors registered in the polling constituencies.

Postal ballot facilities are extended to senior citizens above 85 years, PwDs, and essential service personnel, ensuring inclusivity in the electoral process.

 Various awareness campaigns under SVEEP, featuring State icons and SHGs, have been conducted to encourage voter turnout in the largest democracy.

Polling will commence at 7:00 AM and conclude at 5:00 PM, with Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel urging all eligible voters to exercise their franchise in the Lok Sabha Election 2024.
