Guwahati: A man from Assam has been sentenced to life imprisonment for allegedly raping a minor girl.
The man has been identified as 27-year-old Debesh Biswas, a resident of Ward No 12 of Dhubri town.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the defendant.
According to reports, Biswas had raped a 10-year-old girl in January 2020.
Later, the victim’s mother had filed a FIR at the Dhubri police station on January 19, 2020.
The victim’s mother had accused Biswas of bringing her daughter to his room and engaging in sexual assault with her while she was undressed.
It needs to be mentioned that Biswas has been convicted under section 42 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
