Assam: Man trampled to death by wild elephant in Nagaon

Guwahati: A 22-year-old man was crushed to death by a wild elephant in Nagaon district of Assam, police said on Saturday.

The deceased identified as Bijay Konwar, a resident of Amsoi under Raha police station of the district.

According to reports, Konwar had gone to the surrounding forest to pasture his cattle when he was assaulted by the wild elephant.

Reportedly, the incident took place on Friday.

On being informed by the locals, a police team rushed to the spot and took the body into its possession.

However, the deceased has been sent to Nagaon Civil hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, the forest department has increased patrols in the area, an official said.

He stated that the authorities would compensate the deceased’s kin in accordance with government regulations.
