Assam: Manas National Park Proposed for Year-Round Tourism, Flooding Unlikely
Guwahati: Assam’s Tourism Minister, Ranjeet Kumar Dass, has publicly advocated for keeping Manas National Park open to tourists throughout the year, a move aimed at capitalizing on the park’s unique resilience to seasonal flooding.
Dass, addressing a gathering in Salbari, Baksa district, pointed out the striking difference between Manas and Kaziranga National Park. While Kaziranga frequently grapples with monsoon floods, Manas has remained remarkably flood-free since 2011, making it a stable and reliable destination for continuous tourism.
The Minister further underscored the park’s increasing significance, mentioning Chief Minister’s recent visit and expressing hopes to host Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He believes that uninterrupted access to Manas would substantially boost the region’s economy, generating substantial employment opportunities, especially for local communities that depend on tourism.
The state government is currently evaluating the practical and ecological ramifications of keeping the park open year-round, ensuring that any decision made will prioritize both tourism growth and the park’s delicate ecosystem.
