Assam-Mizoram Border dispute: CID summons Mizo MP
Guwahati: A team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police has sent a notice to Mizoram’s Rajya Sabha MP K Vanlalvena on allegations that the MP had an involvement in the 26 July clashes in the Assam-Mizoram border.
The CID team is camping in New Delhi and had served the notice to the MP under Section 41A of the CrPC. The notice served to the MP was based on a case filed at the Dholai Police Station relating to the border clashes and speeches made by the MP during the incident.
Reportedly, since the MP is “missing”, the CID team had pasted the summon notice on the walls of his official residence and Mizoram Bhawan. Vanlalvena’s phone was also not reachable.
It may be mentioned that in the July 26 border clashes, at least six Assam Police constables were killed in firing that were caused due to border disputes between Assam and Mizoram. Apart from the deaths, at least 80 persons were reported to be injured and among these, a Superintendent of Police was also severely injured.
As of now the situation is under control but strict vigil is being kept on the bordering areas.
The Assam Home Department has also urged the people from Assam to not visit Mizoram till issues related to the border are solved and further have asked Assamese citizens living in Mizoram to take proper precautions during their stay in Mizoram.
