Assam: One arrested with Brown sugar worth Rs 27 lakh in Cachar District
Guwahati, 23rd February: In recent operations, Assam Rifles have made significant seizures, tackling illegal drug trafficking and smuggling activities in Mizoram and Assam.
On February 22, in the General Area Kalain, Cachar District, Assam, Assam Rifles confiscated 39 grams of brown sugar valued at Rs 27.30 Lakhs. A joint operation with Kalain PS led to the apprehension of a drug peddler, along with the seizure of an auto and an iPhone. The seized material and the individual were handed over to Kalain PS for further investigation and legal proceedings.
In another operation on February 20, the Battalion of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), in collaboration with Excise and Narcotics, Anti Narcotics Squad, Aizawl, seized five soap cases containing 60 grams of Heroin valued at Rs 42,00,000. The operation, conducted in the General Area Zotlang YMA roadside, Aizawl, resulted in the arrest of one individual. The recovered drugs and the detained individual were handed over to Excise and Narcotics, Anti Narcotics Squad, Aizawl, for further legal proceedings.
Additionally, on February 17, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with Customs Preventive Force (Mizoram), intercepted 114 bags of Areca nuts worth Rs 63.84 Lakhs in the general area Mualkawi, Champhai District, Mizoram.
These operations underscore Assam Rifles’ commitment to combat illegal drug trafficking and smuggling activities, playing a vital role as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast’ in safeguarding Mizoram and India against such illicit activities.
