Assam: Online Game Connection Leads to Foiled Abduction Attempt; Youth Arrested with Minor Girl
Guwahati, 25th April: In a disturbing incident in Assam’s Dhubri, a minor girl’s life once again came under danger after her association with online gaming led to a sinister plot by a youth, foiled by vigilant locals in a dramatic turn of events.
The incident began innocently enough in Chapar, where the minor girl struck up a virtual acquaintance with Sarwar Sheikh, a resident of Chirakuli village in West Bengal’s Parganas district, through the online game POCO.
However, what started as harmless online interaction quickly escalated when Sheikh traveled a considerable distance from West Bengal to Assam’s Bongaigaon district.
In a brazen move, Sheikh allegedly abducted the minor girl under the guise of a love affair. Fortunately, their journey was intercepted by locals at Nityabazar, located on the border of Dhubri and Bongaigaon districts, who promptly informed officials at the Chapar police station.
Responding immedaitely, the Chapar police apprehended Sheikh and the minor girl, subsequently handing them over to the Boitamari police for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Amidst the turmoil, grave concerns have arisen regarding Sheikh’s motives, with the family members of the minor girl suspecting a nefarious trafficking plot. They are urging the administration to ensure that Sheikh faces appropriate punishment for his actions, seeking justice for their traumatized loved one and aiming to prevent similar incidents in the future.
This incident serves as a sobering reminder of the potential dangers of online gaming, underscoring the critical importance of heightened vigilance and community cooperation in safeguarding vulnerable individuals, particularly minors, from exploitation and harm.
