Assam Police Arrested Six For Operating Human Trafficking Racket
Guwahati: As many as five youths including one woman has been arrested for their alleged involvement running a human trafficking racket.
They were arrested by Assam Police from Kalgachia town of Barpeta district on December 23.
The police were able to capture them and also seize a four-wheel luxury vehicle when they arrived in Kalagachia to get the ransom money.
The arrested persons were identified as Jamela Khatun (26), Manik Ali (24), Saddam Hussain (30), Dildar Ali (27), Sanjibul Islam (25), and Shirazul Mir (25).
However, one of the alleged accused managed to flee from the spot.
”We received a complaint that a woman named Jamela Khatun’s second husband was involved in such acts and the complaint of the same was received at night. Following the complaint we swung into action and nabbed all of them while collecting the demanded money,” a police official said while speaking to the media.
Police have also opened an investigation in this regard and are questioning them in the interim.
Authorities have become more vigilant in their pursuit of human traffickers despite the fact that the state is experiencing such crimes.
However, Assam has also reported 189 arrests under the UAPA for the year 2021, while Mizoram and Sikkim have reported no arrests for the same period, according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
It is worth mentioning that from 2019 to 2021, there was an increase in the number of arrests made in Assam under the UAPA. The data shows that in Assam for the year 2021, those between the ages of 18 and 30 reported 108 arrests, which is the highest number.
