Assam Police Busts Counterfeit Currency Operation, Seizes Rs 2 Crore in Fake Notes

Guwahati, 12th May: In a significant crackdown on the circulation of fake currency in the state, Assam Police conducted a raid against a counterfeit currency operation, uncovering approximately Rs 2 crore worth of fake currency in Dhubri’s Chapar.

The operation, led by the Circle Police Officer of Pamkhedi Chapar and the officer-in-charge of Sapar police station, took place during a late-night operation in Barghola, located within Dhirghat of Sapar.

An individual identified as Sahinur Islam, a resident of Dhirghat in Chapar, who was allegedly orchestrating an extensive counterfeit currency network, was apprehended by the police. Islam’s purported involvement in this illicit enterprise had long been a matter of concern, with allegations suggesting his utilization of mystical practices such as tantra mantras to perpetrate fraudulent schemes involving counterfeit money.

The seizure of counterfeit currency amounting to approximately Rs 2 crore represents a significant blow to the clandestine economy of fake currency prevalent in various regions of Assam, particularly in rural areas where unsuspecting individuals often fall victim to nefarious schemes orchestrated by unscrupulous elements.

Reports indicate that the seized counterfeit notes were intended for distribution at a fraction of their face value, with an estimated sale price of Rs 7 lakh, underscoring the lucrative nature of this illicit trade.

However, the apprehension of Sahinur Islam marks a pivotal step towards dismantling the infrastructure supporting counterfeit currency operations in the region. The ongoing police investigation into the incident aims to unravel the intricate web of criminal activities orchestrated by Islam and his accomplices, shedding light on the modus operandi employed to propagate counterfeit currency within the local populace.
