Guwahati: A 56-year-old personnel of the 25th battalion of Assam Police Platoon Commander allegedly shot himself dead at Sivasagar district of Assam on Thursday.
The incident took place at his own residence in the Tengapukhuri Gaon of the district.
The deceased has been identified as Praveen Gogoi.
Gogoi reportedly shot himself in the head with his own service handgun. The reason for the suicide of the Assam Police Platoon Commander is unknown.
However, Gogoi was taken to the Sivasagar Civil Hospital but doctors declared him brought dead.
Praveen’s service pistol was recovered, and his body was sent for a postmortem.
Meanwhile, officials have initiated an investigation into the death’s cause.
