Assam Police Seizes Drugs Worth Crores

Guwahati: Assam police in separate operations, cracked down on drug trafficking and confiscated enormous amounts of drugs worth millions of rupees from several locations throughout the state, according to officials.

During a police search in the Mayabazar area of Duliajan district of Dibrugarh Assam, a sizable shipment of opioid-based drugs was seized.

Reportedly officials seized up to 12.8 kg of narcotics that were included in 13 envelopes.

Three other people were apprehended by the police in connection with the incident. The individuals have been identified as Ganesh Chetri, Hemant Chetri, and Kamal Chetri.

In another incident, police in Morigaon, Assam arrested two individuals and recovered seven soap boxes that were loaded with illegal drugs. 

Police conducted raids in the Batadrava area of the Morigaon district of Assam’s Bodi Bazar. Several syringes and other items that were likely used in packaging and distributing the drugs were also found by officials during the raids.

A woman is one of two people who have been arrested on suspicion of smuggling. They were identified as Mumtaz Begum and Rabbul Hussain by authorities.

In a separate operation in Tura in the West Garo Hills of Meghalaya, police apprehended one person and confiscated heroin.

According to officials, 5.58 grammes of heroin, 46 empty containers, cash, and a cellphone were also discovered.

The arrested person have been identified as Sagar K. Marak. He has been arrested by police for additional interrogation.
